We support social justice campaigns by Christian Aid, Tearfund and Global Justice Now. We pray, learn about and take action on issues affecting worldwide poverty, such as climate change, debt and tax. Although we don’t hold regular meetings we share information by email.
A small group plans events periodically which are often attended by the wider church. These have included a nature walk to call attention to the need for a UK government energy plan, a hunger lunch, taking collections in special services and lobbying our MP. Recently the church participated in Christian Aid’s Big Shift campaign using ‘Prudence the Pig’ to collect petitions which were taken to our bank in Hexham, along with a letter asking the bank to shift investment from fossil fuels to sustainable energy.
