Churches Together in Stocksfield and Mickley
This active group includes ourselves, the three Anglican churches of St. Peter’s Bywell, St. John’s Painshawfield and St George’s Mickley; along with Stocksfield Methodist church and Stocksfield Quakers. Several regular events are organised jointly each year, including:
- services for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January) and the World Day of Prayer (March),
- Good Friday procession of witness and joint service,
- Children’s holiday club in July,
- Charity Christmas Card sale and coffee morning in early November, and
- 'Big Sing’ ecumenical carol service for the village held in SICA in early December.
Most years there has been a Lent course of some kind, and the Methodists and Anglicans are now running a joint monthly ‘Messy Church.’ New for 2017 was the churches’ involvement at the summer Stocksfield Festival.
Prudhoe Churches
Although there's no formal 'Churches Together' in Prudhoe, all the churches work together and are excited by the number of prophetic words encouraging us about what God is doing in the area. The clergy meet monthly to share info and pray together. A real blessing over the last couple of years has been the weekly Friday morning Prudhoe prayer meeting where the ministers and members of all the Prudhoe churches meet to pray for the town. Venues vary; usually one of the churches, sometimes in the Spetchells Centre. Occasionally we’ve prayed in significant buildings like Prudhoe Castle, or outdoors in the Glade, by the river Tyne or prayer-walked the streets.
Not every church enjoys such good relations with other local Christians; the fellowship we have with them is real, and is a blessing to all!
